"Zarb's Champagne" has a lot of great bottle looks because they want to stand out and grab everyone's attention with crazy and bizarre concepts...but this definitely isn't one of them. Nothing says, "I'd love a glass of champagne" like a pair of ooey gooey lips, sweat dripping down a belly button, and a baby's foot pushing out against the inside of the bottle. Yummy. I'll give them kudos for a clean design, a strong contrast, a bold concept, and an elegant logo. In fact, the logo on the side is pretty fun and trendy. Other than that, the images kill the thirst for some champagne. No thank you.

Back From The Dead
I'm really digging this vintage horror film poster styled ad for Energizer! It reminds me of those old black and white films with the standard "creepy" topography like from "Creature from the Black Lagoon." The whole layout of this ad has a cheesy tagline and has movie style credits. At first glance it truly looks like an old movie poster, but then the contemporary aspects sink in, like the cell phones. It's cool how the screens are like glowing creature eyes. The retro letters are orange and have such a strong contrast against the blues. In the background, the lightning generates a static audio when I look at it. The electrical feel is very energetic and livens the image. The overall piece is very fun! The image was created by Owen Richardson. I found it in Workbook Illustration 31.

One With Nature
This piece is called "Animal Man" by Jason Holley, which won him a gold medal in the Society of Illustrators. An image was needed to incorporate several articles pertaining to animals, and this was the end result. The interesting part is that the contrast that catches your eye is actually a reversal. Usually we see a lighter contrast in the part of a piece that demands the most attention and the trivial objects are darker, but in this case it appears to be the opposite. The background sky and ground are brighter than the man, with the exception of a few bright animals. The color choice is vibrant in select areas, but the overall figure is has more earth tones which evokes the sense of nature. The way the figure is gently reaching out for the flying red bird suggests a playful and calm tone rather than an aggressive or ferocious giant. I found this image in the 54th Annual of American Illustration.

Upside Down = Right-side Up
I'm fairly certain I've seen this image on someone else's blog at some point during the semester, so I want to apologize first and foremost if anyone has done this. I'm not trying to copy anyone. This image stuck out to me just based on the reversal aspect. I love how if someone is drinking it, you can still read the logo while it's upside down...because it's still right-side up. The colors are very simple and casual, but the logo itself is very playful with the curvature of the letters. The whole idea is very innovative and witty, in my opinion. This image was taken from Creative Advertising by Mario Pricken. This was created by the agency Indigo Bates, Tallinn for the client, Parnu Brewery. The illustration is by Veiko Tammjarv.
